If you live in a joint family, then you would have experienced moments when your family decided to go on an outing, but you all had to leave your grandparents at home because your destination wasn’t suitable to them. It was either too hot outside or they couldn’t walk the long distances. Many a times, the places that we as youths choose to visit are in the middle of the city crowd and we can’t expect it to be suitable for everyone! Well, this one if for the grandparents! If you live in the NCR or are visiting Delhi, you just landed on a bonus list! Read on to find wonderful and peaceful places to take your entire family, where your grandparents are sure to enjoy.

Akshardham Temple: This Guinness Record Holder is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Hindu temples in the world. Holding the record for the largest Hindu Temple Complex, the Akshardham is not only a mandir. It is a vast Hindu cultural and traditional centre dedicated to Swaminarayan. Along with visiting the Hindu temple, one can delight themselves with the Boat Ride, which takes you through an extensive stream and cave constructed within the walls of a building, depicting 10,000 years of the Indian history through life-size robots and theatrics. A magnificent fountain show delights everyone in the evening with beautiful dance and light sequences. You can also watch a 40-minute film on the life of Swaminarayan on Delhi’s largest and only large format screen. Your grandparents are sure to enjoy the cultural and heritage rich journey in Akshardham complex.

India Gate: This one needs no description. India Gate is a perfect place for hanging out with both friends and family. One can go on a spring or autumn day to the lawns of India Gate for a picnic with the entire family. One can also go out for evening walks with their grandparents and enjoy street foods like bhel puri, ice creams, chuski and pani puri. If nothing else, one can sit on the grass or benches and enjoy the fountains with the beautifully lit India Gate in the background.

Bangla Sahib Gurudwara: This one is sure to be loved by the elders. A beautiful gurudwara that has been ranked as No 1 tourist and pilgrimage site in Delhi by a local survey houses not only the holy place of worship, but also a ‘Sarovar’ or pond in the midst of its complex. The sarovar’s waters are holy and are housed by fishes, which can be fed food by the people, something truly enjoyed by children. There is also an art gallery within the museum complex depicting the Sikh history. Be is day or night, one can go to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib for a peaceful and safe environment, sit at the stairs leading to the pond and enjoy the serene view.

Hauz Khas Lake Complex: It is not just a lake. The Hauz Khas Lake Complex, housing the only lake in Delhi is a fun-filled place to be, no matter the age group. One can go visit the deer park within the complex to enjoy wildlife like deer, peacocks, rabbits, wild squirrels and a variety of birds. One can take their grandparents to the lake in the evening and enjoy looking at the beautiful swans bathing within the fountains of the lake. There is also a huge park in the complex. The park comes to life in the mornings and evenings with children, all playing in the large grounds among flowers and trees. It is one of the best places in Delhi for evening walks.

National Museum: Who wouldn’t like narrating history to their grandchildren? Museums are that one place which are always enjoyed by the folks. And when it comes to one of the largest museums of the country, the National Museum of Delhi is one of the best.
